Both of these Fords are having their wet belts renewed at the same time

Wolds View Garage in Pocklington, York specialise in the replacement of the wet belts on the 1.0 EcoBoost Ford Engines.  There are very few garage around that would have the know how, tooling or expertise to replace these wet belts.

The Ford 1.0 litre EcoBoost engines use a Wet Belt instead of the traditional Timing/Cam belt. The difference is that a wet belt runs inside the engine and therefore is in constant contact with engine oil. Due to oil contamination the rubber wet belt starts to deteriorate and break down. The rubber particles start to come adrift and block up various components inside the engine including the oil pick up and the engine oil sump.

Usually the first sign of a wet belt failure is the engine oil light comes on for no apparent reason. This is the start of the engine being starved of oil.

Ford UK recommend these belts are replaced every 10 years or 150,000 miles however we are seeing many of these belts failing prior to the suggested replacement interval. We stronlgy suggest that they are replaced when the vehicle is around 6 - 8 years old irrespective of mileage.

The 1.0 EcoBoost engine was launched into the UK market in 2012 meaning they are now coming due for the Wet Belt to be replaced . You cannot easily check if a wet belt is failing - if it's due , it's due.

This engine is  fitted to Fords models including the Ford Fiesta, Ford Focus, Ford Transit Connect Van and the Ford B-Max.
