This FIAT 500 had a noisy and ‘chattering’ gearbox. This problem
can cause further damage to the gearbox system if not addressed quickly.
We removed the gearbox and auxiliary items and despatched
the gearbox to a specialist for a complete overhaul. On inspection it was
noticed that the input shaft bearing had failed.
The gearbox was completely overhauled and components replaced
where needed.
We would normally replace the clutch assembly while the
gearbox is removed but on inspection, we found the clutch to be in good
condition and therefore to save some money, we reused the original clutch.
The gearbox was refitted to the car along with its original clutch.
We refitted the auxiliary components and road tested it.
The gearbox overhaul was a success and the car ran
perfectly. We are very happy with the work that we carried out and saving money on not replacing the clutch was a bonus.
If you have a noisy gearbox, don't be too alarmed - the cost
of overhauling a gearbox is far more cost effective than
replacing the complete gearbox system.
