MG Midget 1974

This very pretty 1974 MG Midget was bought in on a trailer due to poor engine running.

We inspected the engine and found that it required various ignition components replacing.

We replaced the ignition coil, points and condenser. We renewed the spark plugs and HT leads. We started the car up and still had a slight running issue. We rechecked all of the work  and found a hairline crack running through the distributor. We renewed the distributor and reset all of the valve clearances

We set up  the carburettors and engine timing correctly

The engine was now up and running smoothly and correctly. We checked over the rest of the car and immediately heard a noise from the water pump area. The internal bearings had failed. We replace with a new water pump along with fresh coolant.

We tended to a poor repair to one of the shock absorbers and at the same time replaced to various clips, screws and washers

At the very last moment the rear brake lights and windscreen wipers packed up. We attended to this and at the same time as doing this job the radio sprang into life. We do not know whether the radio was working prior to coming into the workshop. It's nice when items like this work when leaving the workshop.

We were very pleased to be able to drive the car back to the owners house with the engine sounding sweet and the radio playing.
