1979 MG Midget

This super little MG Midget came in due to the engine hesitating. It was due it's MOT test so we decided to test the car and see exactly what was required for the MOT test.

Here is the list of what was eventually completed to get the car through it's MOT test and to sort out it's running problem at the same time.

•The directional indicators inoperative - found fault with hazard light switch, clean up contacts on switch, retest - all okay

•Both rear leaf springs eye bushes are deteriorated - remove both rear springs. On removal of springs both captive nuts had sheered on o/s mounting. Heated bolt and extract. The other bolt was unable to be extracted - remove and fabricate new spring mounting box section incorporating new captive nut. Replace the eye bushes including both rear shackles.

•Fit all new U bolts and rubber insulators. Clean up and adjust rear brake shoes at the same time.

•O/s/f suspension area is corroded - remove corrosion and fabricate new panels. Weld panels into position.

•Exhaust emissions are excessive - replace spark plugs, points and condenser. Replace distributor cap and rotor arm. Set up ignition timing and adjust the mixture on both carburettors.

•Replace leaking fuel pipe to carburettor

•Clean out and set up washer jets

•Fit new alternator, check charge rate - all okay

•Grease up front suspension joints
