This Volvo was recovered in due to a huge oil leak coming from the rear of the engine.
We have had these XC-90's in before with failed core plugs, we immediately thought it was the same fault. We could see that the oil leak was coming from the rear of the gearbox so we were pretty confident that it was the core plug.
We removed the gearbox to gain access to the leaking plug. Extracted the rogue plug and fitted new. At the same time, and while the gearbox is removed, we fitted a new crank seal as they are also common for failing. We fitted genuine Volvo parts as these are the best ones to use for this particular job.
Refitted the gearbox and filled it with fresh Volvo approved gearbox oil.
We then road tested to ensure that there were no other leaks - everything looked good and the XC-90 was good to go.
