Here we have a 1996 Defender 90 in for a MOT test and various jobs which the customer had asked us to do:

We found the front drop link ball joint deteriorated with excessive play. The customer was already aware that this needed replacing and had bought the part ready for us to fit.

The rear upper ball joint on the A frame was worn/noisy. On removal we found the bolts seized. We had to extract with some force the seized bolts. Replaced ball joint and set of bolts

Passenger rear outrigger was badly corroded. It required a new outrigger and weld repairing.

Rear exhaust mount was adrift. Replaced new exhaust mount

Rear suspension bushes were excessively worn and causing the vehicle to have excessive movement at the rear. We replaced a pair of rear suspension bushes.

Rear brakes were inoperative. On removal of the rear brakes we found both rear brake calipers in poor condition and the brake pads worn low. We replaced the brake pads, a pair of calipers and a section of brake pipe to the passenger side as the exsisting brake pipe was seized into the caliper.

We replaced the rocker cover gasket and deteriorated breather pipe.

All in all the job went well but these defenders do tend to be very difficult and time consuming to work on.
