Micra with bad condensation inside vehicle
This Micra came into the workshop as the customer was not able to see out of her windscreen due to excessive condensation. We knew there was a water leak somewhere but had to locate it.
Initially we carried out a water test and found traces of water inside the heater box. We then stripped out the interior of the car including the dashboard. We removed the heater box and scuttle panel and found water leaking from the windscreen locator clip into the heater box.
We removed the clip to inspect it and found that its seal had perished. We replaced the seal around the clip and re-fitted the components. While it was all exposed we also re-sealed the area around the bulkhead .
They was also a lot of water seeping into the roof headlining. We stripped out the lining expecting to find a further leak but realised that the headlining had been acting like a sponge to the original water leak and soaking up some of the water.
We dried out the interior of the car as much as possible. Replaced the heater box seal and cabin filter. Re-fitted all the interior trim, roof lining and dashboard. We carried out a further water leak and all appears to be fine.
The job was extremely time consuming but had to done to ensure that the leak didn't start to play havoc with the electrical system or start to excessively corrode the vehicle.
